While the group did not move on to the top 20 state winners in Level 3, their performance was a major milestone for the school. This year’s team is officially the most successful STLP group Cartmell has had in the past five years. Congratulations to these young Panthers and their sponsors, Diane McCarthy and Leonela Morales!
Not only have they been successful in the state competition, they also organized a lengthy recycling campaign in which more than 1,100 pounds of aluminum was collected. This ranked Cartmell as the top recycling large elementary school in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The school will also receive a check for $2,500 from River Metals Recycling.

Hello Carroll County Families!! Summer is right around the corner and the children will be out of school looking for fun and exciting things to do with their time. We want to make sure that our students continue to receive balanced meals, so our Nutrition Department is offering 10-day meal boxes again this year.
The summer feeding program provides each child in Carroll County ages 18 and under with 10 breakfasts and 10 lunches as well as milk for each meal. All items are shelf stable, so they won't take up space in your refrigerator or freezer. Just click the link below and fill it out to get your children on the pick-up listing. There is space for four children, so if you have more, you will need to fill out the form another time to list the other children. Once you fill it out, you remain on the list for the entire summer feeding program. You do not need to complete a form for every pick-up event. Click here to register: https://forms.gle/F94DYi9o7NBkMPAUA
Please note, meal boxes should be collected by the parent or guardian of the child(ren).

Deacon was a member of the school's Student Technology Leadership Program and tragically passed away in a house fire in 2024. His dream was to create a garden that would provide fresh and healthy food to all of Carroll County.
His fellow STLP members have made that dream a reality.
The students, and numerous adults in the Cartmell family, have spent many hours tending to the garden and harvesting the vegetable crops. The Carroll County Conservation District has provided significant help to the team, financially, provided gardening advice and through manual labor.
“Every garden begins with a single seed and, for us, that seed was Deacon Sellers,” said STLP and garden sponsor Diane McCarthy at the dedication ceremony. “Today we dedicate more than a garden, we dedicate a living classroom.”
The garden sign was designed by CCHS student Damien Gomez-Zavala and unveiled during the ceremony by the STLP team.
A video of the ceremony will be posted on the District Facebook page along with numerous photos courtesy of Elizabeth Mefford.
